Paul Zukovsky, violin

Flowers, composed with the CEMS System, was commissioned by Robert Stierer at State University of New York as a gift for his wife on their 30th wedding anniversary in June 1975. Originally intended for electronic sound and solo stringed instrument, David Gibson, cellist, played the first performance on June 22, 1975. Paul Zukofsky, violinist, subsequently recorded and released it on CP2 records.

The title meant “instead of, say, roses, or natural flowers” and it has been presented from time to time, without an instrumental soloist, suggesting many many different flowers popping up everywhere.
